The Officer And The Dolphin Volleys of rain fall from the night sky, dark beauty, dark javelins; The Officer And The Dolphin by ~the-disposessed
they sting like nettles, soaking me through my clothes to the bone.
I glance across the darkened sea; there are dolphins,
and the crewman fight weather, yet i am alone.
soberness bathes me; lucidly i survey the soft night.
Frozen, freezing, lonely, i stand apart from the dotards,
and wonder if the moon still casts its serene light,
though my mortal eyes can barely see twenty yards.
Perhaps, when the storm has left, and the stars return,
and I have doffed my hat, there will be peace again;
in nature is balance that human affairs spurn,
so i must guide this instrume
--
into the fog where all is gray
sad notes are as falling rain,
whispering "journey on
walk on and away,
just turn your back,
go away.
no wait.
stay."
